Morning all from Bali!
I finally arrived here on Sunday morning (29/1) around 2 am after what seemed like one of the longest journeys ever, pretty stressful too.
For those who know me you might be surprised to hear that I’m in Bali entirely, because initially the plan was to head to New Zealand first, hence why I wrote stressful above.
I was fortune enough to have a family member who works at BA offer to help me with getting the initial flights out of the UK as they’d be much cheaper and hopefully even business class, the only catch with this is that they’re ‘standby’ flights, meaning they’re subject to availability and can change right up to the point of boarding, regardless I took the gamble.
After I initially booked I kept an eye on the flight availability online when I realised getting to Sydney, which is where I was going to change for New Zealand was pretty much hopeless, there was no availability for every flight even up to 2 weeks after mine, so I went online and looked for some other options to go from my first stop in Singapore which was still looking good and realised I could get to Bali very easily for around £70, job done!
So I left Norwich as planned around midday and got the 3 hour train to Heathrow with nothing but an email saying you may be able to get a flight to Singapore.

Once I got to the airport to check in they told me at the desk while looking somewhat surprised, sure you can go through, they’ve not given you a seat yet but this means they will, which is as confidence inspiring as it sounds.
I took that little bit of confidence and sat myself down in spoons and booked my onward flight to Bali, some accommodation there for a few days and the airport transfer.
Once I got to the gate I heard my name over the tannoy which of course shredded any confidence I had in getting the flight, but in reality all that had happened was they’d overbooked and told me I could either take a middle seat in economy or wait until another day, which would be unlikely they’d have availability anyway.
I decided to take it, still well worth saving the money and now a few days on I’m in Bali, the travelling took over 30 hours in all and pretty much broke me for a few days in a hotel which felt like being in Benidorm but we’re back on track now, I’ll post another update soon!
