Last week in Bali

Now I had a lot more time in the day because I wasn’t spending the majority driving, I spent the morning catching up on some life admin which included a job I’d been putting off, working out how much I’d spent so far.

As you can probably see fairly immediately, I’d been putting off the job because I’m way over budget so far and I knew it, I just hadn’t acknowledged it yet.

At the same time I wasn’t really bothered, I wanted to start this adventure in comfort, I’ve hopefully got a long time left and I’ve never done anything like this before, so I didn’t want to put myself off at the start and I’d say that’s been a success.

Considering half my spending was hotels you could easily cut this down by staying in hostels, that and not having a surf lesson every day possible would make it easily possible to stay within this budget, but like I say, I’m happy with how I’ve done it and wouldn’t change it.

At the same time, being a little bit more money conscious at the time I needed to find a new hotel or extend my current one did push me to find something a bit cheaper, this was an awful choice, I ended up eating somewhere near the new hotel which gave me a delightful stint of Bali belly and I didn’t leave the hotel for two days, can’t recommend it.

As soon as I felt well again I met up with some friends from back home to go on an ATV adventure just outside Ubud which was great fun, nice to see some people I knew too, then back off to one of the nicer hotels in Canggu to see out the rest of my Bali days in comfort.

I’m writing this from La Brisa, a day club, as I’m killing a few hours before heading off to Sydney for a couple of days, currently no plans for when I’m there but I have booked my very first hostel because I refuse to pay the hotel prices after getting used to Bali prices, will be a nice change anyway, or I hope so…

I think I’ll be back Bali, will post some proper thoughts soon.
